We offer lessons individually planned for your holiday in The Gambia. Group lessons or private lessons are available and we make sure that the level of the lessons is adjusted to the students’ previous experiences.

Contact us with your requests and we will be happy to plan the perfect workshop for you. Accommodation can be arranged in apartments with members of Tamala or at hotels close to the Tamala house in Manjai Kunda.

African Dancing

Many of our experienced dancers are also extraordinary teachers and we are always welcoming new students. Help us keep the African dance traditions alive!

African drumming

We offer djembe and doundoun lessons, from basic rhythmic practice to advanced solo challenges.

Drum building

All our drums are made by members of Tamala, who offer lessons in how to make your own drum, tune it or change skin.

Learn about the history of Africa through the many traditional songs we can teach you.

Other instruments

We also arrange lessons in playing and making kora, balafon, bolon, kirin, gongoma and other West African instruments.

    thank you

    • Hi Veronica!
The workshop can be arranged as you wish, you just need to come to an agreement with the members of Tamala and suggest how many hours a day you want to dance. The price will depend on how many hours and how long time you will stay. Group classes will be arranged if there are other students at the same time as you want to visit, there is also the opportunity to participate in Tamala’s own rehearsals, at a very high level.
If you want to e-mail me for some more information my email is: livia_benson @
Otherwise the best idea is to contact the members directly though their manager, phone numbers can be found in the page CONTACT.

      Hope to hear from you,
